UPDATE: Any librarian/information profession or library staff in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma or Texas may participate and apply to have their Specialization Fee paid through the initiative.  Others may take this opportunity to gain the credits for the specialization and then apply and pay the fee on their own.

Level 1 Consumer Health Information Specialization requires 12 hours
Level 2 Consumer Health Information Specialization requires 24 hours

For both Level 1 and Level 2 – Beyond An Apple A Day is a REQUIRED course and must be taken or a person cannot apply. This is being offered first as a single session course.  You can watch the video online and then take the short test to prove you watched the session and gain credit.  This will also be offered in a multi-week course in February and March 2018 if you would like to take the expanded class.  To register for the single session  go to  For the multi-week class being offered in February and March 2018 go to

Twelve Discussions have been created under Discussion Group Offerings for MLA credit. They will not actually be interactive online discussions but a chat box will be available for commenting and question asking.  Participants will have links to documents available for free online or through EBSCO databases available to most individuals through public libraries across Louisiana. There will be a short presentation that will discuss the material read prior to the session and discuss further concepts. Participants will demonstrate participation by answering a few questions if not taking the session at time of offering so credit may still be obtained. 

At the NNLM Professional Development Page there are other offerings that can be taken.  They must be completed by 3/31/2018.

Individuals must register at the websites to obtain credit to count towards their CHIS. Once they have taken the course and received their CE certificate they will send a copy (the certificate is a PDF that can be saved) of it to Documentation can be sent after each event or in one group.  All documentation MUST be submitted by 3/31/2018 for consideration to have the fee paid.
