Professional Organizations

American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) - Professional membership organization. Includes the American Journal on Addictions.

American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry - The AACAP, is a membership based organization, composed of over 7,500 child and adolescent psychiatrists and other interested physicians. Its members actively research, evaluate, diagnose, and treat psychiatric disorders and pride themselves on giving direction to and responding quickly to new developments in addressing the health care needs of children and their families.

American Academy of Clinical Psychiatrists - The organization was created to provide a forum to share information for psychiatrists engaged in direct patient care; and to keep abreast of the latest scientific developments relevant to the practice of psychiatry.

American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (AAPL)

American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry - AAGP is dedicated to promoting the mental health and well being of older people and improving the care of those with late-life mental disorders.

American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology - The mission of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc. is to serve the public interest and the professions of psychiatry and neurology by promoting excellence in practice through certification and maintenance of certification processes.

American Psychiatric Association - Provides Association news and advocacy efforts, clinical resources, publications, and more.

American Psychiatric Nurses Association - Professional organization committed to the specialty practice of psychiatric mental health nursing, health and wellness promotion through identification of mental health issues, prevention of mental health problems and the care and treatment of persons with psychiatric disorders.

Association of Directors of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry (ADMSEP) - Members include MDs, PhDs, EdDs and many others.

Association of Medicine and Psychiatry - Mission is to improve the health of patients with concurrent physical and psychiatric issues.

Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry (GAP) - An organization of psychiatrists dedicated to shaping psychiatric thinking, public programs, and clinical practice in mental health.

International Center for the Study of Psychiatry and Psychology (ICSPP) - Nonprofit research and educational network concerned with the impact of mental health theories on public policy and the effects of therapeutic practices upon individual well-being, personal freedom, and family and community values.

National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems (NAPHS) - Represents behavioral healthcare systems.

Society of Biological Psychiatry - The Society of Biological Psychiatry encourages the study of the biological causes of and treatments for psychiatric disorders. Its continuing purpose is to promote excellence in scientific research and education in fields that investigate the nature, causes, mechanisms, and treatments of disorders of thought, emotion, or behavior.

World Psychiatric Association - Organization of psychiatric societies aimed at advancing psychiatric and mental health education, research, clinical care and public policy.



Eyeglass Drive

In cooperation with the Ophthalmology Interest Group and the Shreveport Red River Lions Club, the Health Sciences Library will be holding an Eyeglass Drive during the month of September.

To donate your old glasses, please leave them in the basket at the Library’s circulation desk. You can also leave eyeglasses in the basket in Room 3-344 at the School of Allied Health Professions.

At the end of September, the glasses will be given to the Shreveport Red River Lions Club. The Lions Club accepts prescription glasses, reading glasses, and sunglasses, with plastic or metal frames. Children’s glasses are especially needed.

Donate your old eyeglasses and help change lives one pair at a time.

BrowZine Now Available!

In response to your requests, the Library recently added BrowZine, a literature surveillance app.  With Browzine, you can easily browse journals by subject, review tables of contents, and read articles from any web browser or mobile device.  With the “My Bookshelf” feature, Browzine tracks your favorite journals and alerts you when new articles are published.
